A Trusted Learning and Development Advisor
This strategy development training course helps develop and manage long-term strategies to bring your business or organisation towards its goals. This course covers topics such as understanding the macro-environment, creating an effective decision-making process, identifying opportunities, creating scenarios, and crafting strategies. Participants will have the opportunity to analyse case studies and develop their own strategic plans. With this course, you will gain the skills you need to think and plan strategically for success.
I always remember a customer saying that the organisation had decided to do a “u turn” and was going to communicate the strategic objectives to the staff. Here’s the kicker, “for the first time in 14 years.” Why were they kept a secret? Nobody knew why. Unbelievable but true.
Here’s an exercise the next time you’re in the elevator with a colleague. Ask your colleague to articulate your organisation’s strategy. The kicker is that if your direct reports fail to articulate the strategy, then the problem lies at your feet.
Definitely the best option is to have a strategic development course tailored and delivered onsite (or a residential option). You might be revisiting your current strategy. Or you might be formulating some new strategic objectives.
• Clearly communicate your organisational strategy
• Articulate your organisation’s objectives
• State your short, medium and long-term goals for the organisation
• Conduct a quick SWOT analysis
• Conduct a quick PEST analysis
• Determine the root cause of conflict in the organisation
• Agree to eliminate unnecessary recurring problems
• Consider a Start Stop Keep model to identify useful behaviours
• Link your strategic objectives to workforce planning
• State your key contingency plans for risks
Take your leaders and managers offsite for a night. It doesn’t have to be hugely expensive if you’re on a tight budget. Taking them away means they don’t have all the distractions. And people like to be invited to a strategy meeting. Over 1.5 Days, your facilitator will help formulate/tweak/change your organisation’s path forward.
“Strategy” must be one of the most misunderstood words in organisations. People often leave meetings remarking that the meeting was very “strategic.” Indeed, a single utterance of the word’s “strategy” or “strategic” makes everyone feel good. Alas, the problem is that most organisations don’t have a clear strategy. Or worse, they have a good strategy but fail to clearly communicate the strategy.
